Week 6 Injury Report: Surprise Punch in the Nuts

Week 6 Injury Report: Caleb Williams Gets a Question Mark, Tank Dell Misses London

Caleb Williams practiced in full Thursday and Friday and still drew a questionable tag; Tank Dell practiced in full Wednesday and Thursday, then Houston ruled him out and left him home from London. Friday kicked the week's practice logic square in the nuts, and the official sheet wins.

The NFL's Week 6 injury report was last updated Saturday at 3:14 p.m. ET. Questionable players can still go either way, with inactives due around ninety minutes before kickoff.

Surprise (might play)

Williams threw Wednesday and practiced in full Thursday and Friday, yet Chicago kept the hamstring designation attached. Coach Ben Johnson said he was "on track," and the practice pattern points toward him being available.

The questionable tag still matters. It preserves an exit ramp if the hamstring reacts badly, so Sunday's inactive list gets the last word. For now, Williams has a better chance to play than the little red Q beside his name suggests. (Chicago Sun-Times)

Rico Dowdle was limited Wednesday, then full Thursday and Friday, and Pittsburgh still lists him as questionable with a toe injury. The tag is annoying; the workload is the larger question. (Steelers injury report)

Several players escaped without a game designation. DeVonta Smith went from not practicing early in the week to a full Friday practice and no tag. Michael Penix Jr. practiced in full all week and will start, while Ladd McConkey has no designation despite the foot issue. KC Concepcion cleared concussion protocol and also carries no tag.

Might not play

The ordinary questionable pile remains large enough to wreck a lineup while someone is buying overpriced stadium nachos.

At running back, Quinshon Judkins has an ankle injury, TreVeyon Henderson has an ankle injury, Tyjae Spears has a knee injury, Alvin Kamara has a back injury, Trevor Etienne has an ankle injury, and Sean Tucker has a quad injury.

The questionable receivers are Ja'Kobi Lane (wrist), A.J. Brown (ankle), Chris Olave (illness), Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle), DJ Moore (shoulder), Josh Palmer (shoulder), KeAndre Lambert-Smith (hamstring), Brenen Thompson (quad), and Savion Williams (ankle).

Kenyon Sadiq (concussion), Grant Calcaterra (back), Eli Stowers (quad), Pat Freiermuth (calf), and Tyler Warren (groin) make up the tight-end watch.

No fantasy-relevant quarterback besides Williams is questionable, and no quarterback, running back, receiver, or tight end carries a doubtful designation. Check every questionable player's inactive status before kickoff. The Q is uncertainty, not decorative bullshit.

Surprise (might not play)

Tank Dell is out with a knee injury after practicing in full Wednesday and Thursday. Houston also left him off the London trip, removing any late-week fantasy séance from the equation. Full practice usually points toward Sunday; this time it pointed toward the airport without him. (TexansWire)

Jalen Hurts practiced in full Wednesday before the week turned hard. Philadelphia ruled him out with a calf issue and superficial blood clot after he missed Thursday and Friday, and Tanner McKee will start. DeVonta Smith's recovery moved in the other direction, leaving the Eagles with their top receiver cleared and their starting quarterback unavailable. (EaglesWire)

DK Metcalf wasn't on Pittsburgh's report until an illness kept him out of Friday's practice, and he was tagged questionable that day. He then came off the report Saturday with no designation, a quiet reversal worth a Sunday-morning recheck. Tyler Warren made his first appearance Friday, limited by a groin injury, and drew a questionable tag. Neither had a weeklong trail to read, which makes late additions more dangerous than a familiar midweek limitation.

The rest (on watch)

The official out list leaves no Sunday suspense at quarterback: Lamar Jackson (ankle), Hurts (calf), Baker Mayfield (right thumb), and Dillon Gabriel (back). Tyler Huntley will start in Jackson's place.

The running backs ruled out are Saquon Barkley (hamstring), Will Shipley (foot), Breece Hall (quad), David Montgomery (groin), Kyle Monangai (thumb and toe), Dylan Sampson (knee), AJ Dillon (ankle), and Jeremiyah Love (ankle). Zach Charbonnet was the Thursday entry, ruled out with a knee injury.

Rashee Rice (hamstring and knee), Dell (knee), Adonai Mitchell (finger), Tre Harris (hamstring), Dont'e Thornton Jr. (hamstring), Roman Wilson (finger), Ben Skowronek (calf), David Sills (hamstring), Skyy Moore (ankle), and Ashton Dulin (hamstring) are out at receiver.

Theo Johnson (neck), Matthew Hibner (hand), and Carter Runyon (foot) are out at tight end.

Monday night's Commanders and 49ers game has started to fill in. Washington has ruled out quarterback Marcus Mariota (knee) and running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt (groin), with Jeremy McNichols (quad) and Stefon Diggs (hamstring) listed questionable. (Commanders) Deebo Samuel, Mike Evans, and Terry McLaurin did not practice Friday, while Austin Ekeler, Rachaad White, and Stefon Diggs were limited and Jayden Daniels practiced in full. Those are practice signals, not final game statuses, and San Francisco's table still showed no designations Saturday afternoon. (Commanders injury report, 49ers injury report)
