NFL Week 5 Sunday Game by Game
NFL Week 5: Sunday, Game by Game
Thirteen games, starting with Eagles at Jaguars in London at 9:30 AM ET and ending with Ravens at Falcons at 8:20 PM ET on NBC. Make the calls before your coffee starts negotiating against you.
Eagles at Jaguars
9:30 AM ET, London, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium | NFL Network | Jaguars -8.5 | Total 41.5 | DraftKings
Injuries: Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, and Hollywood Brown are out; Jalen Hurts and Dallas Goedert practiced in full Friday.
Bhayshul Tuten (RB, Jaguars): play him
Tuten has 60 carries for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns through 4 games. Jacksonville is favored by 8.5, which puts his workload exactly where we want it.
Dallas Goedert (TE, Eagles): flex
Goedert has caught 5 of 7 targets for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2 games. Smith and Brown are out, and Goedert carries no injury concern after Friday’s full practice.
Bengals at Dolphins
1:00 PM ET | FOX | Bengals -7 | Total 43.5 | DraftKings
Injuries: Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are questionable after full practices Friday; Kyle Dugger is out for Cincinnati, while Caleb Douglas, Justin Joly, and Reese Taylor are out for Miami.
Joe Burrow (QB, Bengals): play him
Burrow has thrown for 1,171 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions through 4 games, including 428 yards on 39-of-54 passing last week. Miami is 0-4. Don’t overthink this.
Tee Higgins (WR, Bengals): play him
The questionable tag can scare somebody else. Higgins practiced in full Friday and leads Cincinnati with 39 targets, turning them into 25 catches for 401 yards.
Vikings at Saints
1:00 PM ET | FOX | Vikings -2.5 | Total 41.5 | DraftKings
Injuries: Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison are questionable, Christian Darrisaw is out, Alvin Kamara is questionable with a back injury, and Chris Olave practiced in full Friday.
Chris Olave (WR, Saints): play him
Olave has 35 catches on 48 targets for 491 yards through 4 games. Put him in.
T.J. Hockenson (TE, Vikings): play him
His team-high 26 targets have produced 22 catches and 195 yards. With Jefferson and Addison carrying questionable tags, Hockenson’s role is the clean part of Minnesota’s passing game.
Alvin Kamara (RB, Saints): sit
Kamara has 25 carries for 74 yards in 3 games. He is questionable with a back injury. The name belongs on the jersey, not in your lineup.
Texans at Titans
1:00 PM ET | CBS | Texans -7 | Total 37.5 | DraftKings
Injuries: Tank Dell is out for Houston; Carnell Tate is questionable with a back injury, and Amani Hooker is out for Tennessee.
Nico Collins (WR, Texans): play him
Collins has turned 18 targets into 14 catches, 193 yards, and 3 touchdowns in 2 games. Dell is out, so Collins goes straight into the lineup.
Tony Pollard (RB, Titans): flex
Pollard has 54 carries for 221 yards through 4 games, but Tennessee is 0-4 and catching 7 points. The workload keeps him usable; the game setup keeps him out of the START tier.
Raiders at Patriots
1:00 PM ET | CBS | Patriots -3.5 | Total 45.5 | DraftKings
Injuries: Ashton Jeanty is questionable after missing Friday’s practice; Rhamondre Stevenson is questionable, while Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis III are out for New England.
Brock Bowers (TE, Raiders): play him
Bowers has 16 catches on 24 targets for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2 games. He practiced in full Friday and carries no designation, so there’s nothing left to debate.
Ashton Jeanty (RB, Raiders): flex
Jeanty has 78 carries for 264 yards, plus 19 catches for 165 yards through 4 games. If he’s active, that volume stays in the lineup, though Friday’s missed practice keeps him at FLEX.
Browns at Jets
1:00 PM ET | CBS | Jets -1.5 | Total 39.5 | FanDuel
Injuries: Breece Hall missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with a quad injury; Tylan Wallace is out for Cleveland.
Garrett Wilson (WR, Jets): play him
Wilson leads the Jets with 31 targets, catching 24 for 270 yards and 2 touchdowns through 4 games. Feed the player the offense already feeds.
Quinshon Judkins (RB, Browns): flex
Judkins has 59 carries for 177 yards and another 15 catches for 96 yards. The rushing output hasn’t earned START status, but the combined work earns a FLEX spot.
Colts at Steelers
1:00 PM ET | CBS | Steelers -2.5 | Total 44.5 | DraftKings
Injuries: Michael Pittman is out with a foot injury, Rico Dowdle is questionable with a toe injury, and Keenan Allen is questionable with a groin injury.
Jonathan Taylor (RB, Colts): play him
Taylor has 353 yards and 6 touchdowns on 86 carries through 4 games. There’s no lineup cleverness hiding behind that production.
DK Metcalf (WR, Steelers): play him
Metcalf has 16 catches for 213 yards through 4 games, and Michael Pittman is out. Start him and find something harder to worry about.
Giants at Commanders
1:00 PM ET | FOX | Commanders -3.5 | Total 41.5 | FanDuel
Injuries: Stefon Diggs (hamstring), Marcus Mariota (knee), and Terry McLaurin (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday or Thursday; Jayden Daniels practiced in full both days.
Malik Nabers (WR, Giants): play him
Nabers caught 6 of 7 targets for 112 yards and a touchdown in Week 4. Washington has already allowed 12 passing touchdowns through 4 games, so this call makes itself.
Jayden Daniels (QB, Commanders): flex
Daniels has 3 passing touchdowns, no interceptions, and 100 rushing yards on 12 carries. FLEX him without the ceremonial panic.
Bears at Packers
1:00 PM ET, flexed from 4:25 | FOX | Bears -2.5 | Total 45.5 | FanDuel
Injuries: Caleb Williams is questionable with a hamstring injury, Tyson Bagent is expected to start, and Kyle Monangai is out; Savion Williams is out for Green Bay, while Aaron Banks and Jacob Monk are doubtful.
D’Andre Swift (RB, Bears): play him
Swift has 311 rushing yards on 69 carries through 4 games, and this week the backfield is his.
Luther Burden III (WR, Bears): flex
Burden has 19 catches on 29 targets for 219 yards, including 63 yards on 6 targets last week with Bagent. The quarterback change doesn’t require a séance because we’ve already seen the pairing work.
Jordan Love (QB, Packers): flex
Love threw for 197 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception on 22-of-30 passing last week. He has thrown 2 touchdowns in every game, which is enough to survive the FLEX argument.
Broncos at Chargers
4:05 PM ET | CBS | Broncos -3.5 | Total 41.5 | VegasInsider consensus
Injuries: Joe Alt (neck) and Quentin Johnston (chest) are out for Los Angeles, and Ladd McConkey is questionable (foot).
Bo Nix (QB, Broncos): sit
Nix owns the league’s third-lowest completion percentage over expected at -5.3% and has delivered one top-12 fantasy week, back in Week 3. Stop trying to make this happen.
Omarion Hampton (RB, Chargers): flex
Hampton remains the lead back, which keeps him usable. The supporting cast is thin enough that FLEX is the ceiling on this call.
Lions at Cardinals
4:25 PM ET | FOX | Lions -5.5 | Total 54.5 | VegasInsider consensus
Injuries: we could not confirm final designations for either side, so check the inactives before the 4:25 kick.
Jared Goff (QB, Lions): play him
Goff threw for 412 yards on 32-of-52 passing last week. Arizona has allowed the second-most fantasy points to quarterbacks since Week 2, so Goff stays hot in the lineup.
Jacoby Brissett (QB, Cardinals): flex
Detroit has allowed league highs of 1,308 passing yards and 11 passing touchdowns. Brissett’s 3 interceptions last week keep this from becoming a full-throated START, but the matchup drags him into FLEX territory.
49ers at Seahawks
4:25 PM ET | FOX | Seahawks -3 | Total 45.5 | VegasInsider consensus
Injuries: Nick Bosa and Kyle Juszczyk are out for San Francisco; Zach Charbonnet is out for Seattle.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba (WR, Seahawks): play him
Smith-Njigba opened with 27 catches, 405 yards, and 6 touchdowns across his first 3 games. Charbonnet is out, and JSN already owns the kind of production that ends arguments.
Brock Purdy (QB, 49ers): flex
Purdy posted 789 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 1 interception through his first 3 games. Seattle allows 16.7 points per game, so respect the defense and keep Purdy at FLEX instead of getting cute in either direction.
Ravens at Falcons
8:20 PM ET | NBC | Falcons -3 | Total 43.5 | FanDuel
Injuries: Lamar Jackson and Trey Hendrickson are out, Tyler Huntley starts, and Zay Flowers is questionable with a foot injury; Za’Darius Smith is out for Atlanta.
Bijan Robinson (RB, Falcons): play him
Robinson’s 614 scrimmage yards rank second in the NFL, according to Sharp Football Analysis. Lock him in and move along.
Derrick Henry (RB, Ravens): flex
Henry has 49 carries at 3.3 yards per carry over the past 2 games. The workload prevents a benching, but the matchup and Huntley-led offense cap him at FLEX.
Zay Flowers (WR, Ravens): sit
Flowers is questionable with a foot injury, and Huntley is starting at quarterback. That’s enough loose wiring for one lineup spot.
Set the lineup, then stop touching it. The last panic-click is usually the dumbest one.
